bWell FAQs
When does my coverage start?
Medical, dental, and vision coverage begins on your first day of employment, as long as you complete enrollment within 31 days. Your enrollment confirmation will include your exact coverage effective date. Some plans may begin on the first of the month following your hire date — check the Benefits Guide for plan-specific details.
What happens if I miss the 31-day enrollment window?
If you do not enroll within your new hire enrollment window, you will not have coverage for certain benefits until the next Annual Enrollment period. However, you will still automatically receive BMC-paid benefits, including Basic Life Insurance, Disability coverage, and the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
The only exception for making changes after your enrollment window closes is if you experience a qualifying life event — such as marriage, birth of a child, or loss of other coverage — which opens a special enrollment window. Do not wait. Enroll as soon as you can.
Can I add dependents later?
Yes. You can add eligible dependents — including a spouse, domestic partner, or children up to age 26 — if you experience a qualifying life event. You typically have 31 days from the event to make changes. Outside of a qualifying event, your next opportunity is during Annual Enrollment. Review the Benefits Guide for the full list of qualifying events and dependent eligibility rules.
How do I get my insurance ID cards?
Physical ID cards are typically mailed to your home address within two to three weeks of your enrollment being processed. Most carriers also offer digital ID cards through their mobile apps, often available within just a few days. Check your carrier's app or website for the fastest access — you do not need to wait for the physical card to use your benefits.
