Changing Your Elections
Life changes can impact your benefits. Learn when you can update your coverage and what steps you need to take to make changes.

Generally, any benefit choices that you make upon joining BMC as a new employee remain in effect for the entire calendar year. In some situations, you can make limited changes to your coverage during the year. Those situations are called qualified family status changes (life events).
You have 31 days from the date of the qualified family status change (life event) to make new benefit elections for the remainder of the year. Changes are allowed only for the benefit coverages that are consistent with the change. (For example, the birth of a child allows you to add your new dependent to your health plan and to add dependent life insurance.)
Two ways to make a change:
Online
- Log on to the MyBMC Rewards website.
- Click on the Change Your Coverage tab.
- Select the life event from the drop-down menu.
- Follow the instructions.

Keep Your Address Up to Date
Be sure to keep your current address and your dependents’ addresses on file with Your Benefits Resources Benefits Center.
It is critical that you maintain your current address and other contact information in HR Connect so that you receive benefits communications in a timely manner. You can access HR Connect on the BMC intranet home page or Okta.
If You Leave BMC
If you leave BMC, you may be eligible to continue certain benefits coverage through the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). COBRA continuation coverage may be available for your medical, prescription drug, dental and vision benefits. Information about continuation coverage, including eligibility, costs, and enrollment deadlines, will be mailed to your home address. You can also contact Your Benefits Resources at 1-877-BMC-4849 to speak with a Benefits Representative. Read more or go online to MyBMC Rewards.
COBRA-eligible coverage ends on the last day of the month in which any of the following occur:
- Your employment status changes from full-time to part-time
- Your employment ends
- Your dependents are no longer eligible
- The benefit plan is discontinued
All other BMC benefits coverage, including life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, and prepaid legal coverage, ends on your last day worked at BMC.
